AAA Reina de Reinas Championship Update

AAA Reina de Reinas Championship Update
http://luchawomen.blogspot.com/

The last time I did a write up on the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship was way back in December of 2008.
The title has changed hands a few times since then, so here is an update.
To start out though, the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship is the AAA equivalent of the CMLL World Women's Championship.
Although the Reina de Reinas Championship belt is decided in a tournament easch year, the belt is still defended throughout the reign by the champion.

Sexy Star - triple a lucha libre

Since my last write up in 2008, luchadora Sexy Star won the title on September 26th, 2009 in Monterey, Mexico at Heroes Inmortales III.
She held the belt for a total of 322 days.

Next up, Mari Apache won the belt on August 14th, 2010 in Orizaba, Veracruz, Mexico at Verano de Escándalo in a six person tag team match.
This match was unusual for the Reina de Reinas Championship as in it was one...a tag team match and two...it was Alex Koslov and Christina Von Eerie facing Mari Apache, Faby Apache and Aero Star.
Not only was the Reina de Reinas Championship on the line, but the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship as well.
Mari held the belt for 351 days.

Now for the current champion, who won in a match that would make the WWE proud.
The current champion is Pimpinela Escarlata, an Exotico.
Yes...a man is the Reina de Reinas Champion.
Shades of Santina Marella and WrestleMania XXV!
He won the title in an eight-way elimination match with Cynthia Moreno, Faby Apache, Jennifer Blake, Lolita, Mickie James and Sexy Star on July 31st, 2011 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico at Verano de Escándalo.
He has held the belt for 113 plus days.

Really I'm not happy about that.
Basically because I go around telling people how much better Lucha Libre treats their female performers, then they pull a stunt like this.
Having a man hold the belt does to the title what having Hervina win the WWE Women's Championship did.
But to the WWE's credit they only had Hervina hold the belt one day...not a hundred plus.

Here is the match posted by WarriorsX2000PPV.
The Reina de Reinas part starts about 5:00 in.

As much as I didn't like the outcome, I have to admit, Sexy Star and Mickie James make a heck of a team.

Good to see another NC blogger. I am currently in FayetteNam, and likely will be for a few years :-) Maybe back to Raleigh when the economy picks up.
