Dirty choke holds. Serious injuries. Dangerous, high-flying leaps. It's all part of a wild and wacky spectacle called the Lucha Libre - or free fight.

It's a wrestling style unique to Mexico. From big city arenas, like the one in Mexico City, to a makeshift ring in the tiny town square in Jilotepec, crowds of all ages pack wrestling venues to cheer on their favourite Luchadores. And the die-hard fans insist the Lucha Libre is the most electrifying form of pro wrestling on the planet.

Amid this spectacle is a rising star of the Lucha Libre; an unassuming Prairie girl from Winnipeg -- Sarah Stock. Here in Mexico, she's known as Dark Angel, and the fans love the athletic sensation who proudly displays maple leaves on her costume. What makes Dark Angel a crowd favourite is her daring, breathtaking moves inside the ring. But the 26-year-old petite powerhouse is not your average jock.

Stock was an honours student at the University of Manitoba, on track for a career in medicine. But along the way she took a very, very sharp turn in her career path.

"I was not enjoying what I was doing," recalls Stock. "But while I was studying I was also kickboxing and really enjoyed it, the whole physical aspect and from there, I just decided I wanted to try some other sort of contact sport."

Wrestling fit the bill and when she heard about the Lucha Libre, Stock bought a bus ticket and headed south to Nuevo Larado, Mexico. She had a contact number with a Canadian trainer and didn't speak any Spanish. But Stock was a quick learner who had excelled in French at university, and was soon fluent in Spanish.

Stock settled in the northern Mexican city of Monterrey. There, she lives a simple existence in a downtown apartment. She says she doesn't need much to live but that's an understatement -- her digs are downright Spartan.

Her wrestling jobs take her across Mexico, usually travelling by bus. Stock tends to sleep on the journey, so she doesn't mind the long hauls.

Still single and career focused; Stock has fallen for the easygoing Mexican lifestyle.

"Maybe it's due to the heat but people seem to take things a lot easier, a lot lighter," muses Stock. "From what I've seen, the Mexicans love to laugh, you know they love to joke around and take life a little less seriously. Some of the things that are important in Canada aren't all that important here.

April Hunter is an American professional wrestler, professional wrestling valet and model.

April Hunter was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania but moved to Enterprise, Alabama with her father when her parents divorced. At the age of sixteen she returned to Philadelphia. She attended college, majoring in English, Biology and Chemistry, but dropped out after several years. At the age of nineteen she began working as an erotic dancer, but found that she disliked the industry, so she became a fitness model instead.

In 2000 Hunter was hired by Terry Taylor on behalf of World Championship Wrestling (after they saw her layout in Playboy) as a member of the "Black and White" nWo. Along with four other models (Tylene Buck, Pamela Paulshock, Midajah O'Hearn and Kim Kanner) she accompanied members of the nWo to ringside for their matches. When the nWo split up, the models remained with Scott Steiner, and were identified as his "freaks". Hunter left WCW later that year following a pay dispute.

After leaving WCW, Hunter decided to become a wrestler, and in 2001 she moved to Boston, Massachusetts to train under the venerable Killer Kowalski. She began working on the independent circuit, and is the very first female in pro wrestling history to hold (male) Tag Team Titles (with Wagner Brown), securing both JAPW and 3PW tag gold. Hunter also formed one of the first women's tag team in the United States with fellow Kowalski graduate Nikki Roxx in World Xtreme Wrestling known as The Killer Babes. Hunter went on to form tag teams and win titles with Talia ("T & A") and J.D. Michaels.

Hunter has competed for multiple American promotions, fighting and defeating both men and women including Ring of Honor and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, and has toured Europe, Japan. Puerto Rico, Canada, UK/Ireland and Mexico several times. She is one of the notably few western women to be invited back more than five times to work Japan's prestigious and rigorous fight circuit. Hunter has also made guest appearances with Carmen Electra's NWWL, working matches in the nude. November 2006 Paris, France: April Hunter won the Queens of Chaos world title. Queens of Chaos is a prestigious and respected women's wrestling tournament featuring the top wrestlers from all over the world.

On August 30, 2006, April married her Canadian wrestling boyfriend, J.D. Michaels, in a small, private ceremony at the Graceland Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Chikako Shiratori is a Japanese female wrestler.
She was born on June 25th, 1973 in Tokyo, Japan.
Chikako made her pro wrestling debut on October 4, 1991.

She held the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) Japan Women's Championship twice, retiring with it the last time.
Chikako also wrestled for Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA) in Mexico.

Chigusa Nagayo (Chiko-Chan) was born on December 8th, 1964 in Omura, Japan.
She is a Japanese female wrestler probably best known as being one half of The Crush Gals with long-time partner Lioness Asuka.
Chigusa was trained by All Japan Women's Pro-Wrestling (AJW) and made her pro wrestling debut on August 8, 1980.

In 1985, The Crush Gals went to Mexico for a tour and Fuji TV went along with the pair to do a network special on Jaguar (Yokota) and the Crush Girls while they were in Mexico.
