Time for another top ten list of the most popular luchadoras (female wrestlers) on this blog so far.
Interestingly, it seems everyone is focused on the veterans of Lucha Libre and not so much on the new-comers.
1. Marcela
María Elena Santamaría Gómez was born on May 31, 1971 in Mexico City.
She is better known to her Lucha Libre fans as Marcela .
Marcela was trained by luchadors Panchito Villalobos, Rafael Salamanca, Franco Colombo, Jose Luis Feliciano, Satanico and Fantastik, and she made her pro wrestling debut in December of 1985.
She has held many titles during her career including the Distrito Federal Women's Title, the CMLL Women's Title and Mexican National Women's Championship.
Marcela mainly works for the Mexican professional wrestling promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL)
2. Xochitl Hamada
The sister of TNA Knockout Hamada, Xochitl Guadalupe Hamada Villarreal was born on May 1, 1970 in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico.
She was trained by Blue Panther, Gran Hamada, Shadito Cruz, Shinobu Kandori and Jackie Sato, and she made her pro wrestling debut on September 5, 1986, not in Mexico, but in the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.
During her career, she has held the JWP Pacific Coast Tag Team Titles (with Miss A), the CMLL World Women's Title and won the AAA Reina de Reinas in 1999.
Xochitl has worked for both Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) and Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA).
3. Martha Villalobos
Martha García Mejía was born on May 30, 1962 in Distrito Federal, Mexico.
She was trained by luchadors Panchito Villalobos and El Enfermero, and she made her pro wrestling debut on September 9, 1979, at Acapulco's Arena Coliseo.
Martha has been the AAA Reina de Reinas twice, held the Mexican National Women's Championship, the Mexican National Women's Tag Team Championship (with Pantera Surena), the Northern Mexico Women's Championship, the Mexico State Women's Champion and the FILL Women's Championship.
Martha has worked for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA) and Federación Internacional de Lucha Libre (FILL).
4. Esther Moreno
María Esther Moreno León was born on February 20, 1969 in Mexico City, Mexico.
She is better known in Lucha Libre as Esther Moreno.
Esther of course is part of a big family of Lucha Libre wrestlers including her father luchador Acorazado Moreno, her brother El Oriental, her three sisters, Alda Moreno, Cynthia Moreno and Rossy Moreno, and her ex-husband was Groond.
During her career, she has held the AJW (All Japan Women) Japanese Tag Team Titles (with her sister Cynthia Moreno) and she held the AAA Reina de Reinas Title (beating Xochitl Hamada in a match for it in 1999)
Esther has worked for All Japan Women's Pro-Wrestling, JD Star and Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA).
5. Rossy Moreno
Another of the Moreno sisters, Rossy Moreno was born María del Rocío Moreno León on October 17, 1965 in Mexico City, Mexico.
Of course she has the same family ties as her sister, with the addition of being married to luchadors Ruso Flores and Dr. Wagner Jr., and having a son, Hijo del Dr. Wagner that also wrestles.
Like Esther, she was trained by her father Alfonso "Acorazado" Moreno and she made her pro wrestling debut on December 30, 1978 in the Arena Neza in Nezahualcoyotl, Mexico.
She has held the National Women's Title and the AAA Reina de Reinas Title, winning the 2000 tournament.
Rossy has worked for Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA).
6. Sexy Star
No matter how you spell her name (Sexy Star, Sexi Star), Dulce Maria Garcia Rivas is very popular.
She was born on September 20, 1982 and she was trained by luchadors Humberto Garza Jr., Mr. Lince, Gran Apache and the late Abismo Negro.
Sexy Star made her lucha libre debut on August 29, 2006 at the Arena Coliseo De Monterrey as Dulce Poly.
She has held the FILL Women's Championship, the FILL Mixed Tag Team Championship (with Humberto Garza Jr.), and the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship (in 2009, after defeating
Fabi Apache in a bull terrier match).
She has worked for Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA) and Federación Internacional de Lucha Libre (FILL).
7. Lady Apache
Sandra González Calderón was born on June 26, 1970 in Mexico City.
Like many Lucha Libre stars, wrestling is a family affair with her.
Lady Apache has been married to Electro Shock, Brazo de Oro and Gran Apache and Fabi and Mari Apache were both her step-daughters at one time.
She was trained by Gran Apache, Pepe Casas and Raúl Reyes, and made her pro wrestling debut on June 30, 1986.
Lady Apache has held many titles during her career including the Distrito Federal Women's Title, the CMLL World Women's Title (twice), the AAA Reina de Reinas Title (2001 and 2004),
the National Women's Title (twice), the AAA Mixed Tag Team Titles (with Electro Shock) and the Pro Wrestling Revolution Woman's Title (PWR is a California based wrestling promotion).
She has worked for both Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) and Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA).
8. Estrellita
Born Viviana Ochoa Barradas on October 18, 1977 in Zamora, Michoacán, Mexico.
Her grandfather is Rafael Barradas, her cousin is Flama Solar and she was once married to Psicosis AAA.
She was trained by El Hijo del Gladiador, Ringo Mendoza and Gran Apache, and made her pro wrestling debut on February 26, 1993, at the Auditorio Municipal de Amecameca.
Despite her popularity and long career, she has yet to win any titles.
Estrellita has worked for both Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) and Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA).
9. Tiffany
Tiffany was born Xóchitl Leyva Sánchez on February 20, 1973 in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico.
Her father is luchador Jesse Rojas "El Vasco", her mother is the original La Diabolica and her brother is Jessy.
She was trained by her father and made her Lucha Libre debut on July 18, 1993 at the Arena Solidaridad in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico.
During her career, she has held the Northern Women's Title, the National Women's Title (twice), AAA Reina de Reinas (2005, 2007) and the AAA World Mixed Tag Championship (with Chessman)
Tiffany works mainly for Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA).
10. India Sioux
And finally we have a young lady that will probably not be seen inside the ring any more.
India Sioux was born on September 20, 1984 in Nezahualcoyotl, Mexico.
She was trained by Puma, La Marquesa, José Luis Feliciano and Hombre Bala.
India made her Lucha Libre debut in April of 2004 in Chimaluacan, Mexico.
During her wrestling career, India did not hold any titles.
She mainly worked for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL).
