Luchadoras Rule at TripleMania XIX

 Yeah I know I'm kinda late getting around to it, (3 months) but on June 18th, 2011 at the Palacio de los Deportes ("Sports Palace") in Mexico City, Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA) held TripleMania XIX.
The significance of this is that unlike the WWE's WrestleMania, AAA's TripleManía actually had a good women's match.
At WrestleMania XXVII we had "Snooki" (from Jersey Shore), Trish Stratus, and John Morrison taking on Dolph Ziggler and LayCool, with Vickie Guerrero.
Yay.
At TripleMania XIX, we got to see Sexy Star team up with TNA Knockouts Angelina Love, Velvet Sky and the then TNA Women's Knockout Champion Mickie James.
Sexy Star, Angelina Love, Velvet Sky and Mickie James all on one team?
Yes.
They took on Cynthia Moreno, Faby Apache, Lolita and the then AAA Reina de Reinas Champion Mari Apache.
So you had arguably six of the hottest women in wrestling and two world champions in one women's match.
As opposed to a reality star (?), a retired wrestler, two guys and the WWE version of The Beautiful People.
And where the WWE match went on a grueling three minutes and seventeen seconds, the AAA match was eleven minutes and four seconds.

Anyway, the La Legión Extranjera team (Sexy Star, Angelina, Velvet and Mickie) won when Mickie gave Faby Apache the Long Kiss Goodnight and the Mickie–DT.
To me, the best part was seeing the good old "psycho/heel" Mickie James wrestling Faby.

Tiffany versus Lady Apache

Here's a video of Lady Apache wrestling Tiffany in a "Bull Terrier" match.
The Bull Terrier match is a dog collar match and looks like it could be very dangerous for either luchadora.



Of course we are given the classic "heel interference" at the end with "The Black Family" coming to Tiffany's aid.

IWRG Intercontinental Women's Wrestling Championship

IWRG, Grupo Internacional Revolucion or International Wrestling Revolution Group (English version of the promotion name) is an independent Lucha Libre promotion based in Naucalpan, Mexico.
They have a women's title belt listed as being held by Amapola, but the listing doesn't appear on the IWRG website.
Close to the end of 2007, Amapola stopped wearing the belt to matches. But up until 2007, IWRG had a talent sharing agreement with CMLL. In 2007 that agreement fell apart, and that may account for why Amapola stopped wearing the belt.


The previous history of the IWRG Intercontinental Women's Wrestling Championship goes like this......

Flor Metalica, Marcela, Josseline, Ayako Hamada, La Diabolica, La Amapola, Lady Metal were involved in a Torneo Cibernetico (elimination tag-team matches) that Ayako Hamada won.
In 2003, Ayako Hamada successfully defended the belt against La Diabolica.
In 2005, Amapola evidently beat Ayako for the belt in Japan.
She defended the belt twice against Marcela in 2006 and Hiroka in 2007.

Miss Janeth

Miss Janeth (which is pronounced Jeanette, not Janet) was born Janet Fragoso Alonso on January 14th, 1973 in Mexico City, Mexico.
She was trained by her sister, Zuleyma, Raúl Reyes and Pepe Casas.
Janeth made her lucha libre debut on February 25th, 1990 at the Arena Coliseo in Mexico City.
During her career she has held the UWA World Women's Wrestling Championship (twice) and the 2006 AAA Reina de Reinas.
She was part of the Las Brujas AAA along with Xochitl Hamada and Rossy Moreno.

Lorena Velázquez

Okay, she wasn't really a luchadora, she just played one in movies.....

Lorena Velázquez (born María de la Concepción Lorena Villar Dondé on December 15, 1937 in Mexico City) is a Mexican actress. She debuted in 1955 and her mysterious beauty quickly became noticed. She competed in Miss Mexico in 1958 and placed second. Afterwards she was appointed as Miss Mexico 1960 although she refused to represent Mexico in the Miss Universe pageant.

Lorena played varied roles in the 60's, from a vedette, to a cowgirl and even as the queen of vampires. She also played two antagonic roles in a film, as queen of a far away planet and her twin (picture). In the 70's she made the transition to television. Since then she has alternated between the big and little screens.

She is the daughter of actor Víctor Velázquez and older sister of actress Teresa Velázquez.

Luchadora La Mohicana was born in Tacámbaro, Michoacán.
She was trained by luchadores Mohicano I and Rolando Vera and made her wrestling debut in 1983 in Montemorelos, Nuevo León, Mexico.
La Mohicana stood five foot one and weighed in at 137 pounds.
Her finishing move was the  Suspended Surfboard or the la Campana .
During her career she held the Mexico State Women's Tag Team Wrestling Championship.

Luchadora - La Gata

This is luchadora La Gata.
La Gata is five foot one and weighs 137 pounds.
When's the last time you saw those kinda stats for a WWE Diva or TNA Knockout?
La Gata was trained by luchador Chico Hernández and made her lucha libre debut in Cuernavaca Mexico, but I dont know when.
She started out masked but lost her mask to either Lady Apache or Lola Gonzalez.
La Gata's finishing move is the Gory Special, also known as the Gory lock and created by Salvador "Gory" Guerrero.
